Above The Fold is a digital marketing agency headquartered in Mumbai, with a second office in Jaipur, working with brands across India. Founded in 2021, the team of 30+ runs social media, SEO and GEO, performance marketing, branding, websites, marketplaces and in-house production for businesses from Delhi to Chennai and from metros to Tier 3 towns. This page explains how that works when your business is not in our city.

How we serve brands across India from Mumbai and Jaipur

We work remotely by default and travel when being in the room changes the outcome: shoots, factory and store visits, kick-offs and key presentations. Most of the work that drives results happens in shared dashboards, calls and written reviews, not in meetings.

That model is a deliberate choice. A single team in two offices means strategy, creative, media and production sit together instead of being split across branch offices with different standards. Every client gets a named lead, direct access to the people doing the work, and a weekly written review that includes what underperformed. Production is done in-house in India, so a shoot in Jaipur, Mumbai or on location at your plant is planned in batches to produce a quarter of content per trip.

Being in the same time zone helps more than people expect. A brand in Kolkata or Bengaluru gets the same working day, the same festive calendar and the same platform realities as one in Mumbai. What changes from city to city is the buyer, the language and the competition, which is what the rest of this page is about.

Metros and Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets are different jobs

A campaign that works in Mumbai or Bengaluru often fails in Indore, Lucknow or Coimbatore, not because the audience is less digital but because it buys differently. Price sensitivity, language, trust signals and the role of WhatsApp all shift as you move beyond the metros.

The scale of the opportunity is not in doubt. India crossed 950 million active internet users in 2025, with rural India making up about 57% of them and growing faster than urban India, according to IAMAI figures reported by Tele.net in January 2026. Much of the next decade of growth for consumer brands sits outside the eight big cities.

FactorMetro audiencesTier 2 and Tier 3 audiences
LanguageEnglish and Hinglish work for most categoriesHindi or the regional language usually outperforms
Trust signalsReviews, influencers, brand aestheticsPrice clarity, cash on delivery, local proof, familiar faces
Purchase pathWebsite, app, quick commerceMarketplaces, WhatsApp, local retail after online research
Media costsHigher CPMs, heavy competitionLower CPMs, but lower average order value
CreativePolished, aspirationalDirect, demonstrative, relatable

The practical answer is rarely one campaign for all of India. It is a core brand idea with separate creative, language and offer layers by market cluster, measured separately so the metro numbers do not hide what is happening elsewhere.

Regional language content is a performance lever, not a translation job

Most Indian internet users consume content in Indian languages, so regional language creative usually improves reach and conversion outside English-first audiences. The IAMAI and Kantar Internet in India 2024 report found that 98% of internet users accessed content in Indic languages, and 57% of urban users preferred regional language content (as reported by Storyboard18).

The mistake is translating English copy. A Tamil, Bengali, Marathi or Gujarati audience recognises machine-translated or literal copy immediately, and it costs more trust than English would. Where a campaign needs it, regional language content is planned with native-speaker partners, adapting the idea, the humour and the offer, not just the words. For export, B2B and premium categories, English first is often still right, and we will say so.

National search versus local search

National SEO targets category terms across India; local SEO targets “near me” and city-specific searches tied to a real address. Most brands need one more than the other, and confusing the two wastes months.

  • National brands (D2C, SaaS, manufacturers selling across India) should build category and product pages, content depth and authority, and avoid thin city pages that repeat the same text with a new city name. Search engines and AI answer engines both discount that pattern.
  • Local and multi-location businesses (clinics, showrooms, schools, restaurants, real estate) should invest in a Google Business Profile for every real location, consistent listings and reviews, and location pages with genuinely local content.
  • AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews now sit above both. Getting cited depends on clear, factual, consistent information across your site and third-party sources. Our guide to getting recommended by ChatGPT and AI Overviews covers this.

We only create local listings where a business actually operates. That applies to us too: we have offices in Mumbai and Jaipur, and we do not list virtual addresses anywhere else.

City pages: how we work in each market

Each Indian city has its own buyer, language and competitive set. These pages cover what we have learned about each.

CityWhat is different about the market
MumbaiOur headquarters; the most competitive media market in India, and where most of our production happens.
Delhi NCRLarge consumer and D2C base, aggressive competition, high creative volume needed.
BengaluruSaaS, B2B technology and venture-backed D2C, with data-literate buyers.
PuneManufacturing, education and real estate, with strong local search demand.
HyderabadPharma, technology and real estate, with Telugu content mattering for consumer work.
JaipurOur second office; exporters, hospitality and craft brands with strong products and thin digital presence.
AhmedabadCommercially sharp industrial and export businesses that expect every rupee of scope justified.
ChennaiA trust-led market with deep manufacturing, where Tamil content is essential for consumer work.
KolkataPrice-careful heritage and SME businesses, where website and SEO demand leads.

Industries we work with across India

We work across consumer, B2B and service categories, and each has a different demand engine. Proof from our work includes a lifestyle and bags brand that grew sales 400% (case study) and a women’s fashion D2C brand that cut CPA by about 30% while scaling spend (case study).

How we scope an engagement

Every engagement is scoped to the brand rather than sold as a package. Five things decide scope: the goal, the channels that serve it, the volume of content and production, the markets and languages involved, and the timeline. A national D2C brand running regional creative across several market clusters is a very different brief from a manufacturer that needs a capability website and search visibility abroad.

We start with a discovery call and a look at your numbers, margins and current assets, then send a written proposal with defined deliverables and the measures we will report on. Ad spend is always separate and is paid directly by you to the platforms, so media sits in your own accounts. Billing terms are agreed before work starts. For the wider context, our guide on how agency pricing works in India is a useful read.

How to pick an agency outside your city

Choose on accountability, transparency and proof of similar work, not on postcode. A remote agency that reports honestly will outperform a local one that does not.

  1. Ask who will actually run the account. Meet the lead, not just the founder or the sales team.
  2. Ask to see a real report. It should include what did not work and blended numbers that tie to your accounts.
  3. Check how they handle on-ground needs. Shoots, store visits and launches should be planned and priced up front.
  4. Test their understanding of your market. Ask how they would adapt language, offer and channels for your buyers.
  5. Start with a defined scope. A three-month plan with clear measures is a fairer test than a year-long contract.

Our guide on how to choose a digital marketing agency in India goes further.

Can a Mumbai agency work well with a brand in another Indian city?

Yes, if it is set up for it. Above The Fold works remotely by default with brands across India, using a named lead, shared dashboards and weekly written reviews. We travel for shoots, plant or store visits and key presentations. Same time zone, same festive calendar and the same platforms make remote work straightforward.

Where are Above The Fold’s offices?

Above The Fold is headquartered in Mumbai and has a second office in Jaipur. We have no offices in other Indian cities and do not list virtual addresses. Clients elsewhere in India are served from these two offices, with in-house production and travel for on-ground work when it matters.

Do you create content in regional languages?

Regional language content, including Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil and Bengali, is planned with native-speaker partners where a campaign needs it. We recommend it where the audience calls for it, which is most mass consumer work outside English-first metro audiences, and say so when English is the better choice.

Is marketing to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities cheaper?

Media is often cheaper per impression outside the metros, but average order values and conversion patterns differ, so the cost per customer is not automatically lower. The bigger gains usually come from language, offer and trust signals built for those buyers, such as clear pricing, cash on delivery and local proof.

How do you decide what to recommend first?

We look at the goal, margins, current assets and where demand already exists, then recommend the one or two channels most likely to move the number. A focused programme in one or two channels done properly usually beats a thin spread across five, and we will say when the website or the offer needs fixing before any marketing will work.

Do you work with agencies as well as brands?

Yes. Alongside direct clients across India, we work as a white-label partner for agencies in India and abroad, producing strategy, content, media and websites under their brand. Our white-label agency page explains how that works, and our international page covers overseas brands.

If you run a brand anywhere in India and want a straight read on what would move first, tell us the goal, or message us on WhatsApp at +91 95872 56938. You can also see our work, or start with the industry pages for D2C consumer brands and manufacturing and distribution.
