Packaging is the last thing a buyer looks at before deciding, and usually the least considered part of the brand. We design packs and labels that work in two completely different places at once: physically on a shelf, and as a thumbnail on a phone.

Your pack has two jobs now, not one

Packaging used to be designed for one context: held in a hand, read at arm’s length, competing with whatever sat beside it on a shelf. Detail worked. Small type worked. Texture and finish did real persuasive work.

Then the same product started selling on Amazon, Flipkart, Blinkit and Zepto, where it appears as a square image roughly the size of a postage stamp, beside eight competitors, with a price underneath.

Most Indian packaging still fails the second test. Beautiful up close, unreadable at thumbnail size. The brand name disappears, the variant is indistinguishable from the one next to it, and the product loses the sale before anyone has read a word about it.

So the first question we ask is not what the pack should look like. It is where it will actually be seen, and in what order.

What we design

Primary and secondary packaging

The pack itself, plus outer cartons and shipper design where they matter. For D2C, the unboxing surface is part of the brand experience and worth designing rather than defaulting.

Labels, sleeves and wraps

Common in food, FMCG and personal care, and where most compliance detail has to live without swamping the design.

Range and variant systems

The genuinely hard part of packaging. A system where every variant reads as the same brand while remaining instantly distinguishable from its siblings, at any size. Get this wrong and customers buy the wrong flavour, then leave a bad review about it.

Marketplace pack imagery

Renders and photography built specifically for listing grids, which is a different job from the shelf shot and usually an afterthought.

Print-ready artwork

Dielines, bleeds, colour separation and prepress, delivered so your printer does not have to redraw anything. We would rather hand over files that work than files that look good in a presentation.

Where packaging projects usually go wrong

  • Designed at A4, sold at 200 pixels. If the design was only reviewed on a large screen or a printed proof, nobody has checked the context where most people will actually see it.
  • Compliance added at the end. Ingredient lists, FSSAI marks, net weight and statutory declarations are not an afterthought to squeeze in. Designing around them from the start avoids the redesign.
  • Variants that look identical. Customers buy the wrong one, then blame the product.
  • No print reality check. Colours that only exist on screen, finishes the printer cannot deliver, and dielines that do not match the actual carton.
  • Pack and digital designed separately. The shelf version and the listing version drift apart until they no longer look like the same brand.

How this connects to everything else

Packaging is not an isolated design job. The same pack has to work in your marketplace listings, your performance ads, your social content and on a physical shelf.

We build the pack and the imagery around it together, which is why this sits alongside our branding, marketplace and AI production work rather than separately. For catalogues running to hundreds of SKUs, AI-assisted production is what makes shooting every variant economically viable.

How we measure it

Conversion rate on the listings where the pack appears, marketplace click-through from the search grid, and whether the range reads correctly at thumbnail size in a live category test. We would rather run that test before print than discover the answer afterwards.

How much does packaging design cost in India?

It depends on the number of SKUs, whether structural work is needed, and whether print-ready artwork is included. A single label is a very different job from a twelve-variant range system.

Do you handle printing?

We deliver print-ready artwork and work with your printer on specification and proofs. We do not mark up printing, so our advice on materials and finishes is not influenced by what we would earn on it.

Can you redesign packaging without changing the brand?

Often that is the right call. Many packs do not need a new identity, they need the existing one applied properly: better hierarchy, a stronger brand block, legibility at small sizes. We will say when a rebrand is genuinely warranted and when it is not.

What about FSSAI and statutory requirements?

We design around mandatory declarations from the start rather than adding them at the end. Final legal responsibility for label accuracy stays with you, and your compliance team should sign off before print.

Do you design for quick commerce specifically?

Yes. Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart show smaller images than Amazon and reward instant recognition even more strongly. If quick commerce matters to you, we design and test for it explicitly.

If you make a physical product and want an honest read on whether your pack is working, tell us the goal.
