Why international brands hire an India-based marketing team
Brands outside India hire an India-based team for three reasons: senior talent at a price local markets cannot match, in-house production capacity, and a lower cost per finished asset. Above The Fold is a growth marketing, creative and web agency headquartered in Mumbai with a second office in Jaipur, founded in 2021, with a team of 30+. We work with clients in the UAE and deliver white-label projects for agency partners in the UK, the Netherlands and Turkey. We have no offices outside India; everything here assumes a remote engagement.
Senior people on the work, not only on the pitch
In London, Dubai or New York, a mid-sized retainer usually buys a junior-weighted team with senior oversight. The same budget in India can put experienced strategists, designers and media buyers on the account day to day. Test that before signing.
Production capacity under one roof
Shoots, AI product photography and video, motion, design and copy are produced in-house by our own team in India. When a performance account needs twenty new variations a week rather than four, capacity matters more than any single idea. Our AI product photography library shows what that looks like at catalogue scale.
Cost that changes what a budget can do
Lower cost is real, but it is the third reason, not the first. The useful framing is more senior hours and more produced work for the same spend. If an India-based team is only cheaper, it is the wrong hire.
What to keep local and what to run from India
Keep the work that depends on being physically present or culturally native in your market; run the work that depends on volume, rigour and speed from India.
| Keep local (in-house or a local partner) | Run from India |
|---|---|
| Events, activations and in-person partnerships | Paid media management on Meta, Google and LinkedIn |
| PR and media relationships | Creative production: statics, carousels, reels, motion and video edits |
| Native-language copy where tone is subtle (with review if we draft) | SEO, GEO and content programmes in English |
| Location shoots that need your market’s setting or talent | AI product photography and studio-style product content |
| Final brand sign-off and legal review of claims | Website design, WordPress and Shopify builds, conversion rate work |
| Customer service in your local language | Reporting, analytics set-up and testing programmes |
How engagements run across time zones
Every market we serve gets either a real overlap of shared office hours or a deliberate overnight cycle. The table below shows November, when the UK, the EU, the US and Canada are on standard time, against India Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30), assuming a 9:30 am to 6:30 pm IST day and a 9:00 am to 6:00 pm local day. India does not change its clocks.
| City | Local time in November | Difference from IST | Shared office hours (local time) | From late March |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dubai | GST, UTC+4 | 1.5 hours behind | About 8 hours, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm | No change |
| Riyadh | AST, UTC+3 | 2.5 hours behind | About 7 hours, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm | No change |
| London | GMT, UTC+0 | 5.5 hours behind | About 4 hours, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm | 4.5 hours behind, about 5 hours shared |
| Amsterdam | CET, UTC+1 | 4.5 hours behind | About 5 hours, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm | 3.5 hours behind, about 6 hours shared |
| New York | EST, UTC-5 | 10.5 hours behind | None in office hours; calls 8:00 to 10:00 am (6:30 to 8:30 pm IST) | 9.5 hours behind |
| Toronto | EST, UTC-5 | 10.5 hours behind | None in office hours; calls 8:00 to 10:00 am (6:30 to 8:30 pm IST) | 9.5 hours behind |
| Singapore | SGT, UTC+8 | 2.5 hours ahead | About 6 hours, 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm | No change |
The UK and EU moved to standard time on 25 October 2026, and the US and Canada on 1 November 2026. For Gulf and Singapore clients it works like a regional team. For London and Amsterdam, our afternoon covers your morning. For North America the model is overnight production: brief at the end of your day, review finished work in the morning. Saudi calls are planned around the Sunday to Thursday week.
Communication and reporting
Every international client gets a named lead, a shared channel and a written weekly review, with one or two live calls a week inside the overlap window. We use your tools where possible: Slack or Microsoft Teams, Google Meet or Zoom, and your project board.
- Weekly: a written note covering what shipped, what the numbers say, what failed and what happens next.
- Monthly: a performance review against the targets agreed at the start, in your currency.
- Quarterly: a strategy review where we propose what to stop, keep and scale.
- Travel: for key moments such as a launch or a shoot, agreed in advance.
Contracts and billing
Engagements run on a written agreement and a scope of work, invoiced by our Indian company in USD, GBP, EUR or AED and paid by international wire transfer. We do not have entities, bank accounts or VAT registrations outside India, so we will not pretend to; your finance team should treat us as an overseas supplier and check any local reverse-charge or withholding rules with their adviser.
- Retainers are billed monthly in advance; projects are billed in milestones.
- Ad spend stays in your own ad accounts and is paid by you directly to the platforms, so you keep ownership of accounts, data and history.
- Intellectual property in the work we produce for you passes to you once it is paid for, and that is written into the agreement.
- An NDA can be signed before any discovery call where you need one.
Data protection basics
We handle personal data under written terms, and for UK and EU clients we sign a data processing agreement (DPA) before we touch customer data. Under GDPR, a client that shares personal data with a supplier acting on its behalf needs that kind of contract in place. India is not on the European Commission’s list of countries with an adequacy decision, so EU transfers to India typically rely on the Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, and UK transfers on the UK’s International Data Transfer Agreement or its addendum to those clauses.
In practice we keep exposure low: we work inside your own accounts with role-based access, avoid downloading customer lists unless a task requires it, and remove access when the engagement ends.
How we scope an international engagement
We do not publish a rate card for international work. Scope depends on what you are trying to achieve, the channels involved, the volume of content each month, how many markets and languages the work has to cover, and your timeline. Bilingual production, compliance review and cross-time-zone coverage all add real work, and the proposal says where they apply.
Every engagement starts with a discovery call, followed by a written proposal setting out deliverables, the team, the reporting rhythm and the fee in your invoicing currency. Ad spend is always separate and is paid by you directly to the platforms. Performance marketing is billed as a defined base retainer, and as your ad spend scales the fee moves to a percentage of ad spend. Billing terms are agreed before work starts. For background on the common models, see our guide to how agency pricing works in India.

| Qatar | Marketing agency in Doha |

When an Indian agency is the wrong choice
An India-based agency is the wrong choice when your marketing depends on presence, native cultural nuance or live daily collaboration more than on production and performance.
- Your growth runs on events, PR and relationships. Those need people in your city.
- Your creative depends on fine local humour or register. A native team will usually do it better.
- You need someone in the room every day. Remote works on clear briefs and written reviews; it does not replace a daily on-site presence.
- Procurement requires a local entity or local invoicing. We invoice from India and will not set up shells to get around it.
If you are an agency rather than a brand
If you run an agency and want to resell or outsource execution under your own brand, the terms are different: NDA first, your brand or unbranded, and we never contact your client. See our white-label marketing partner page for how that works.
Does Above The Fold have offices outside India?
No. Above The Fold is headquartered in Mumbai with a second office in Jaipur, and serves international clients remotely. Day-to-day work runs on video calls, a shared Slack or Teams channel and written weekly reviews, and we travel for key moments such as a launch, a shoot or a major presentation when a project genuinely needs it.
Which currencies can you invoice in?
We invoice in US dollars, British pounds, euros or UAE dirhams, paid by international wire transfer to our Indian company account. We have no local entities, bank accounts or VAT registrations abroad, so your finance team should treat us as an overseas supplier and check local reverse-charge or withholding rules.
Do you sign a data processing agreement for GDPR?
Yes. For UK and EU clients we sign a data processing agreement before handling any personal data. Because India has no EU adequacy decision, transfers usually rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK equivalent for UK clients. Your legal team should confirm the mechanism that suits your set-up.
How do you handle the time difference with the US and Canada?
We run an overnight cycle. In November New York and Toronto are ten and a half hours behind India, so you brief at the end of your day and review finished work the next morning. Live calls sit in your early morning, our evening, and are kept deliberate.
Who owns the work and the ad accounts?
You do. Ad accounts, analytics and pixels are set up in your name, or we work inside the ones you already own. Intellectual property in the creative and content we produce passes to you once it is paid for, and that is written into the agreement from the start.
How do engagements usually start?
With a discovery call, a written proposal and either a scoped retainer or a defined first project. Many international clients start with one channel, such as paid social or SEO, and expand after the first quarter once they have seen the rhythm and the numbers.
