Meta and Google Ads in 2026: What Works for Indian Brands

Performance & Ads 7 min read By

Key highlights

  • Meta has folded its automated campaigns into Advantage+ sales, app and leads campaigns, and creative variety is now the main lever for reaching the right people.
  • Google is pushing Search towards AI Max, giving Performance Max more controls, and making Demand Gen the home for YouTube Shorts and Gmail.
  • For Indian brands, language, price framing and WhatsApp handoffs decide performance as much as campaign settings.
  • Clean conversion data through Conversions API and enhanced conversions, plus consent records under India’s new data rules, is the foundation for everything else.

Indian advertisers are spending more on digital than ever. The FICCI-EY report released in March 2026 found digital advertising rose 26% to INR 947 billion in 2025, making up 63% of total ad revenues.

More money in the same auctions means less room for sloppy accounts. This guide covers what is working on Meta and Google Ads for Indian D2C and B2B brands in 2026, how to set it up, and where budgets usually leak.

What changed since 2025

Meta Ads in 2026: what is working

Fewer campaigns, broader audiences

The accounts that perform best in 2026 have simple structures. One prospecting campaign on Advantage+ sales or leads, one retargeting or retention layer if the data supports it, and budget concentrated enough to exit the learning phase.

Use exclusions rather than narrow interests. Exclude recent purchasers and existing leads, and let the algorithm find new buyers from broad audiences.

Creative is the targeting

When the system decides who sees which ad, your creative tells it who the ad is for. A reel featuring a working mother in Pune reaches different people from a static price comparison for college students.

Diversify concepts, not just colours. Each new ad should test a different angle, persona, format or hook:

  • Problem and solution: show the frustration your product removes.
  • Founder or maker story: particularly strong for Indian D2C brands built on craft or ingredients.
  • Creator and customer videos: real people using the product in real Indian homes and streets.
  • Offer-led: price, bundle, free shipping or cash on delivery messaging for value-conscious buyers.
  • Language variants: Hindi, Tamil, Marathi or Bengali versions often outperform English outside the metros.

Catalogue ads for D2C

Fashion, beauty and home brands with large catalogues should run catalogue ads with a healthy product feed. Feed quality, lifestyle imagery and accurate pricing matter as much as the campaign itself. We cover this in detail in our guide to Meta catalogue ads for fashion D2C.

Click-to-WhatsApp and WhatsApp placements

Many Indian buyers prefer to ask a question before they pay. Click-to-WhatsApp ads work well for high-consideration products, services, real estate and B2B enquiries.

WhatsApp has also announced Status ads and promoted channels for Indian businesses, managed from the same Ads Manager. Treat them as a test budget line and measure them on conversations that turn into sales.

Google Ads in 2026: what is working

Search is still where intent lives

Someone searching “corporate gifting hampers Mumbai” or “industrial valve manufacturer Gujarat” is ready to talk. Protect that demand with tightly themed Search campaigns, strong ad copy and landing pages that answer the query directly.

Test AI Max on campaigns with solid conversion data first. Review the search terms report every one to two weeks, add negatives for irrelevant traffic, and keep brand terms in their own campaign.

Performance Max with guardrails

Performance Max works well for e-commerce brands with good feeds and enough conversions. In 2026 you can steer it far better than before:

  • Add campaign-level negative keywords and brand exclusions so PMax does not simply harvest your branded searches.
  • Split asset groups by product category or margin band, not by random themes.
  • Supply your own video. Auto-generated videos from static images rarely represent a brand well.
  • Set new customer acquisition goals if repeat buyers are already reached through email and WhatsApp.

Demand Gen for YouTube and discovery

Demand Gen is Google’s answer to Meta-style prospecting, running across YouTube, Shorts, Discover and Gmail. It suits Indian brands that already have vertical video for Instagram, since the same creative can be adapted for Shorts.

Use it to create demand that your Search campaigns can then capture. Judge it on assisted conversions and branded search growth, not only on last-click sales.

A creative testing system that works

  1. Plan in concepts. Each month, brief three to five new concepts, each with a distinct angle and audience in mind.
  2. Produce variations of each concept. Different hooks in the first three seconds, different lengths, different languages.
  3. Launch into your main campaign. Let the platform allocate spend, then read results after enough spend to be meaningful.
  4. Kill, keep or iterate. Retire concepts that never get spend, iterate on winners with fresh hooks, and log what you learn.
  5. Refresh before fatigue. Watch frequency and rising costs on top ads, especially around festive peaks. Our Diwali 2026 playbook covers festive creative planning.

Measurement: fix the signal before you scale

Automated bidding is only as good as the conversion data you send. An account that underperforms often has a tracking problem before it has a campaign problem.

  • Server-side tracking: set up Meta Conversions API and Google enhanced conversions alongside the pixel and tag.
  • Send real outcomes: for lead generation, import qualified leads and closed deals from your CRM so the platforms optimise for quality, not form fills.
  • Test incrementality: Meta offers an incremental attribution setting, and geo or holdout tests show what ads truly add.
  • Model the bigger picture: larger advertisers can use Google’s open-source Meridian marketing mix model to compare channels.
  • Get consent right: India’s DPDP Rules, notified in November 2025, introduce a phased compliance period. Clear consent notices and records protect both your data and your ad accounts.

Mistakes Indian advertisers still make

  • Splitting small budgets across too many campaigns so none of them learns.
  • Judging Meta on in-platform ROAS alone while ignoring returns, cash on delivery cancellations and repeat purchase.
  • Letting Performance Max claim branded search sales as new revenue.
  • Running the same three creatives for months.
  • Sending paid traffic to slow, generic homepages instead of fast, focused landing pages.

If several of these sound familiar, our checklist of performance marketing red flags will help you find where budget is leaking.

Frequently asked questions

Should Indian D2C brands spend more on Meta or Google in 2026?

Most D2C brands lead with Meta to create demand and use Google Search and Performance Max to capture it, so the right split depends on how much people already search for your category and brand.

Is Advantage+ better than manual Meta campaigns?

For most accounts with steady conversion data, Advantage+ sales or leads campaigns with broad audiences and strong creative variety now perform at least as well as manual setups and are far easier to manage.

What is AI Max for Search campaigns?

AI Max is an optional set of features for Google Search campaigns that expands matching beyond your keywords and adapts ad text and landing pages, and Google plans to move Dynamic Search Ads campaigns onto it from February 2027.

How do we know if our ads are actually driving sales?

Combine clean server-side tracking with CRM data, compare platform numbers against actual orders net of returns, and run holdout or incrementality tests at least a couple of times a year.
