Google keeps on updating its algorithms to provide better and more relevant answers to its searchers. Here are some of the google updates history that make an impact on the Serps.

Florida Update 2003

This google updates history made a significant impact on the search. It was launched on November 16, 2003. Florida changed how the links worked and were calculated. It was to downgrade the ranking of spam sites but unfortunately, many innocent non-spam sites lost ranking as well. This false positive relegated many small business and affilites sites and they lost rankings. The shake-up continued till 2004. In order to rectify the error many webmasters sent the URLS to Google.

The blowback was massive and Google promised not to roll out updates before the holidays again.

Penguin Update June 16, 2022

Ten years have gone by since Google brought into the picture Penguin Update. This update was against manipulative links. There were a number of updates and this algorithm has become part of Google/s core update. The penalties have become less common but still exist in partial and side-wide format. Although Google still monitors poor links this update monitors unnatural link schemes PBNs, link exchanges, and unnatural outbound link patterns.

Big  Daddy December 2005

Rolling out in December 2005 this was a big infrastructure change. It had a major impact on the quality of SERPs. When Google made the announcement, there was open discussion about Big Daddy. It has a major impact on the quality of SERPs. The update was completed in March 2006.

The update came about in 2012 and targeted exact match domains. This was not to target EMDs but to target sites that used spammy tactics especially EMDs with exact match domains with thin content.Jagger Update 2005
