Google Algorithmic Updates

Google Updates are used for retrieving data stored in its servers, the websites are indexed and ranked before storing in its database. All the processing is done by its algorithms which its major shareholders Larry Page and Sergei Brin have been developing since the formation of the company in the year 1998. The company with a major share in the search market is Google 3.5 billion times a day by the users.    

Google algorithms have since been evolving to refine the search and its indexing. The updates are regular and Google announces its updates to the world. But some of the development is kept secret and not announced. While some updates are regular development others are core updates making an impact on whole algorithms. There is a fundamental change in the search as many websites and blogs are impacted.

Webmasters keenly keep an eye on the updates and try to read the impact so that they can adjust their SEO techniques and change guidelines accordingly. There have been some major updates that have made a larger impact on the search and ranking of the websites.  Some of the earlier updates are mentioned below:

Quality Update Year 2017 August 9

This was an unconfirmed quality update and the webmaster reported minor volatility in rankings. Among the pages that were impacted were category pages, pages with thin content, aggressive adverts negative user updates. The pages were impacted negatively as well as positively.  Though the update was rolled out on August 19 it was said that Google was testing the since the month of August 2019.

Fall Flux Year 2017 September  8

Though unconfirmed it impacted search visibility and traffic. This was followed by more fluctuations on other days in September and October.   

Maccabees Update December 12, 2017

Google Confirmed some minor changes in the core update. Websites were hit between December twelve and fourteen.

Broad Core Algorithm UpdateMarch 9, 2018

This was confirmed on March twelve with a major update to a core algorithm by Google.  The update had begun rolling a week before the announcement. This update was meant to benefit under-rewarded pages with great content.

Broad Core Algorithm Update April 16, 2018

It was similar to March Update and rewarded sites with great content relevance.

This was the beginning of the update and several continued to follow.
